COE: Update to COVID-19 Alert 11: Temporary Approval of Distance Education Instruction (January 25, 2021; UPDATED: August 20, 2021)

The Commission has extended the expiration date for temporary distance education approvals granted in response to the pandemic lockdown. Temporary distance education approval will now expire on December 31, 2021.
Institutions interested in acquiring permanent approval for the delivery of instruction via distance education must submit an application no later than OCTOBER 28, 2021.

COE: COVID-19 Alert 11: Temporary Approval of Distance Education Instruction
This alert addresses the Council’s temporary approval of distance education instruction for programs during the COVID-19 Federal Emergency Period.
U.S. Department of Education Approval:
The USDE granted an accommodation for accreditors to approve the temporary use of distance education instruction for programs during the COVID-19 Federal Emergency.
Recently, the USDE extended this accommodation through the end of this year or until such time as the Federal Emergency period is ended.
Council on Occupational Education Approval:
The Council issued many approvals for use of distance education instruction on a temporary basis, and up until this time, specified no expiration of this approval.
The Commission met in December, 2020 in regular session and determined that the Council will END its approval for temporary use of distance education instruction on June 30, 2021.
Institutions that wish to continue the use of distance education instruction (for part or all of required program hours) must apply for permanent approval of distance education instruction no later than April 22, 2021.
