COE President and Chief Executive Officer Vacancy Announcement

The Council on Occupational Education (COE) is a national institutional accrediting agency for the accreditation of non-degree-granting and applied associate degree-granting postsecondary occupational education institutions. COE’s mission is “assuring quality and integrity in career and technical education.”


COE is recruiting for a new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).  The President and CEO serves as the chief executive officer of the Council on Occupational Education (the Corporation) and the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education (the accrediting agency).


Position Overview:

The successful candidate will have seasoned executive-level management experience, as well as demonstrated experience in higher education leadership capacities, with prior involvement in the work of the Council and/or other accrediting agencies preferred.


The incumbent will also have proven people and fiscal management experience, as well as demonstrated experience working with multi-jurisdictional constituents, Boards, educational institutions, and regulatory agencies.  The ideal candidate will be adept at the development and implementation of organizational protocols, processes, policies, and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance. Excellent presentation and communication skills, with a reputation as a trusted advisor, a must.


Position Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in a related field from an accredited university; doctorate degree preferred


  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in senior leadership positions with responsibility for administrative, personnel, financial oversight functions, along with strategic planning and regulatory compliance


  • Proven experience in technical education and/or occupational accreditation with direct knowledge of US Department of Education regulations required; past with experience working with COE accredited organizations preferred


  • Proven constituent-building skills; adept at working with diverse stakeholders, including occupational educational institutions, Boards and regulatory bodies, such as the US Department of Education, required


  • Exceptional presentation and written communication skills, as well as experience conveying opinions and rationales clearly and concisely


  • Proven ability to multi-task and work under pressure in a small, fast-paced office, with a management style characterized by consensus building, teamwork, openness, and transparency


  • Commitment to and demonstrated success in promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility


  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit, innovator, and creative thinker


  • Willingness to travel with notice


Other Details:

The projected annual salary for this position is in the range of $250,000 to $350,000.  COE also offers a comprehensive benefits package and a welcoming work environment.


This position is based in Atlanta, Georgia and the incumbent would be expected to start by May 2023.
