Honoring Excellence Dr. Linda Alford and Robert “Bob” Clark Receive COE’s 2025 Sue Schooler Award

May 7, 2025

The Council on Occupational Education (COE) proudly recognized two exceptional leaders in career and technical education—Dr. Linda Alford and Robert “Bob” Clark—as recipients of the 2025 Sue Schooler Award, during the Hall of Fame Recognition Luncheon at the Spring Accreditation Institute in Columbus, Ohio.

Now in its second installment, the Sue Schooler Award honors individuals who have exemplified excellence, mentorship, and unwavering service in accreditation. Named after one of COE’s most respected pioneers, the award is the first honor in the Council’s Hall of Fame and represents the highest form of recognition for service and leadership.

Dr. Linda Alford

With over 20 years of service as a COE team member and nearly 8 years as a team leader, Dr. Linda Alford has long been a cornerstone of the Council’s accreditation process. A seasoned educational leader, Dr. Alford’s career spans roles such as Chair of Adult Education, Director of Counseling, and Vocational Business Instructor. Her leadership has extended beyond her institutions into state-level curriculum and advisory committees—always with an unwavering commitment to student success and mentorship.

During the luncheon, Dr. Alford received a standing ovation. “It is a true honor to receive this recognition from a community that has given me so much purpose,” she said. “If given the chance, I would do it all over again.”

Robert “Bob” Clark

Though unable to attend in person, Robert “Bob” Clark’s powerful video message resonated deeply with attendees. With over 50 years in career and technical education, including roles as a welding instructor, Senior Director, and Chief Academic Officer of Orange Technical College, Bob’s dedication is unmatched. His COE journey includes serving as a team member, team leader, trainer, and ultimately as Chair of the Commission. His decades of leadership and service helped shape the very standards COE upholds today.

“I am deeply honored to receive the Sue Schooler Award,” said Clark. “This recognition is a testament to the collective efforts of all who strive for excellence in occupational education.”

Why This Matters

The Sue Schooler Award is more than a plaque or title—it’s a symbol of legacy, impact, and integrity. Nominations are opened each January and evaluated through a blind peer-review process based on criteria such as longevity, leadership, and contributions to COE’s mission.

As COE continues to grow and evolve, it is leaders like Dr. Alford and Mr. Clark who remind us of the values at the heart of our work: mentorship, excellence, and a relentless pursuit of quality in occupational education.  We invite you to read the full press release by clicking here.
